While viewing fine art is typically a visual sensation, the texture of a painting has a huge impact on its perception. Converging at Mirada on August 26th will be three nationally-acclaimed artists who are experts at infusing tactile elements in their work to produce lushly-nuanced paintings.
Gabriela Aguilo manipulates tinted waxes, creating a subtle gleam and movement to her ethereal encaustic paintings. Utilizing a massive palette knife, James Leonard’s paintings can have up to 30 layers; his Transformational Series is likened to a Chihuly on panels. Each piece of Stephanie Paige’s is an extremely time-consuming endeavor as she applies and removes marble dust, venetian plaster, sand, acrylics, metallic leaf and other media to build her striking work.
